IJD enables innovation in biomimetic coatings

Researchers at the Biomechanics Laboratory of Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli used IJD's stoichiometry-conservation capabilities in an original way, using properly treated animal bones as starting material to produce bone-apatite-like (BAL) coatings on orthopaedic and dentistry implants.

Using natural apatite yields an ideal composition, including small amounts of elements relevant to osseointegration that would be very hard to include in a lab-synthesized target.
